Thumb Gussets... Warm and cozy or the spawn of satan?

So last night I was working on these Firecracker Gloves with a lovely skein of wash day wool. Everything was going fine and dandy until the thumb gusset. Maybe it was because I started the gusset at a ridiculously late hour or perhaps the fact that I have never even attempted a glove or gusset in my life... but by golly I've been crocheting for nearly two decades... this shouldn't be that hard! Grrrr!!!!
